TEACHING GRAMMAR IN THE MODERN WORLD
DIGITAL AGE
As digital technologies advance, so does the teaching and learning of literacy and grammar. One of the main challenges educators face, is trying to instill in students why and how grammar is central in the composition of our language; while simultaneously linking the conventional model of grammar with the modern world (Marrick, 2007). Current pedagogical direction highlights that we must be creative in our approaches to grammar instruction, taking advantage of the development of multiliteracies. There are many ways in which we can engage ourselves and our students in multiliteracies and digital technology. A BALANCED APPROACH
There needs to be balance between traditional modes of learning and multiliteracy. It is important that educators are mindful of the purposes, timing and benefits and disadvantages of multilitleracy use within the classroom; ensuring that such activities are integrated and hold meaning.
